User Privacy Policy

January, 2020

Chillwall’s Privacy Policy covers the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information that may be collected by Chillwall anytime you interact with Chillwall, such as when you visit our website or use our services. Please take a moment to read the following to learn more about our information practices, including what type of information is gathered, how the information is used and for what purposes, to whom we disclose the information, and how we safeguard your personal information. Your privacy is a priority at Chillwall, and we go to great lengths to protect it.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We do not sell any information about our users except to the extent that it has been made anonymous by aggregating such information with similar information from other users. We will use your personal information only for the purposes that you would expect – to provide you with the Chillwall service – and will only disclose it with your permission or if we are legally obliged to.

Why we collect personal information

We collect your personal information because it is necessary to provide you with the service and because it helps us deliver a superior level of customer service and in particular:

  • to make the social networking component of Chillwall more interactive and user-friendly;
  • to personalize event and interest recommendations; and
  • to make it easier for our users to invite their social networking connections to use Chillwall and share Chillwall content.

What information we collect and how we may use it

There are a number of situations in which your personal information may help us give you better products. For example:

We may ask for your personal information when you request customer service, register for additional services, or participate in online surveys.

When you interact with Chillwall, we may collect personal information relevant to the situation, such as your name, email address, contact preferences, cookies (if permitted by browser settings), geolocation data (if permitted by browser settings), and IP address information.

We also collect information for market research purposes — such as how you use our service — to gain a better understanding of our customers and thus provide more valuable service. This is completely internal and we do not sell this information to anyone.

For users who are not logged in using a Chillwall account, we will collect such information regarding activities on our websites, such as is geolocation data and cookies, as is offered by the browsers through which you use Chillwall. This helps us and our advertisers to determine how best to provide useful information to customers and to understand which parts of our websites and services are of most interest to them.

We may use personal information to provide services that you have requested, or suggest services that our service determines that you may be interested in, as well as for auditing, research, and analysis to improve Chillwall.

In the course of using the Chillwall, you may input or otherwise upload to the system personal information about other people. You agree that you will only do so in compliance with all laws that are applicable to that personal information.

As part of providing the service, we may also collect personal information that is publicly available on the internet and match that information against information you have provided.

Your Chillwall ID and related information

Chillwall allows you to create a “Chillwall ID” to Log In to use the service. This convenient service saves you time and allows for easier use of our web services and permits you to access functionality not otherwise available from Chillwall. Here’s how it works: You create a personal profile — providing your name, email address, and in some cases information about your preferences. The system saves your information and assigns you a personal Chillwall ID — in many cases simply your email address, because it’s unique and easy to remember. The next time you wish to use Chillwall, all you need to do is enter your Chillwall ID and password; the system looks up the information it needs to provide you with the service.

Publicly displayed information is public

In some contexts using the service, information you share is visible to other users. We make reasonable efforts to make it clear when information is visible to anyone other than you.

Personally identifiable information you submit in a forum that is public can be read, collected, or used by other individuals beyond Chillwall’s control. Chillwall is not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to share. Chillwall will never publish your personal information without your express consent. However, if you choose to make information, which was previously non-public, available by enabling certain user features, you thereby consent to Chillwall collecting, using and disclosing that information for the purposes of such features, on Chillwall.

When we disclose your information

Chillwall takes your privacy very seriously. Chillwall does not sell or rent your contact information to other marketers, except to the extent that it has been anonymized by aggregating such information with similar information from other users. You control when your personally identifiable information is made available to others.

We may disclose your personal information without notice or consent if we are legally obligated to do so, such as in response to a court order or production order.

We have a zero tolerance policy for child exploitation and child pornography. If it comes to our attention that you are using the Chillwall service for such purposes, we reserve the right to provide the relevant information to law enforcement.

With our service providers, vendors, and strategic partners

There are also times when it may be advantageous for Chillwall to make certain personal information about you available to companies that Chillwall has a strategic relationship with or that perform work for Chillwall to provide products and services to you on our behalf. These companies are also obligated to protect your personal information in accordance with Chillwall’s policies, except if we inform you otherwise at the time of collection, in which case the privacy policy indicated at the time of collection will apply. For example, where third party ISPs or technology providers exchange information with Chillwall, the privacy policy of the entity which originally collected the information will apply; or if you choose to share a post on Chillwall across multiple social networks, the privacy policies of each social network will apply individually to the use, collection and disclosure of any personal information provided by you with respect to that post.

How we protect your personal information

Chillwall takes precautions — including administrative, technical, and physical measures — to safeguard and protect your personal information against loss, theft, and misuse, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. In particular, our servers are protected with a high industry standard of secure physical and electronic access to Chillwall data, which includes meeting ISO 27001 and FISMA certifications.

You can help us by also taking precautions to protect your personal data when you are on the Internet. Change your passwords often using a combination of letters and numbers, and make sure you use a secure web browser.

Integrity of your personal information

Chillwall has safeguards in place to keep your personal information accurate, complete, and up to date for the purposes for which it is used. Naturally, you always have the right to access and correct the personal information you have provided. You can help us ensure that your contact information and preferences are accurate, complete, and up to date by checking your profile at www.chillwall.com. And you can request a copy of your personal information by contacting us at the email address below. The current process for expired and deleted accounts is to close the account and render it non-accessible. However, Chillwall may maintain expired accounts for a period of time for data integrity purposes. Usage data which has been rendered non-personal through aggregation with population data cannot be removed from heuristic data sets, and will not be deleted.

Cookies and other technologies

As is standard practice on many websites, Chillwall’s website uses “cookies” and other technologies to help us understand which parts of our websites are the most popular, where our visitors are going, and how much time they spend there. We use cookies and other technologies to study traffic patterns on our website, to make it even more rewarding as well as to study the effectiveness of our customer communications. We also use cookies to customize your experience and provide greater convenience each time you interact with us.

You can disable cookies on your browser, but certain features of the Chillwall website may not be available or may not function as intended once cookies are disabled.

As is true of most websites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, geolocation and clickstream data.

We use this information: to analyze trends, perform heuristic analysis of user preferences, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole. Part of the Chillwall service is to use the information collected so as to more appropriately personalize event and interest recommendations and marketing for users.

Similarly, the Chillwall service may be able to access geolocation information which your mobile device permits it to access, and while you may enable or disable such access using your mobile device, certain features or functionality of Chillwall’s service may not be available or function as intended if geolocation is disabled.
